Which goggles work with which video transmitter?

Video systems

Analog, DJI, Walksnail, HDZero and OpenIPC are five separate video systems, not five brands of one thing. Choosing one is the decision that constrains the most other choices, and it is close to irreversible.

One decision, most of the budget

A video system is the pairing of a transmitter on the aircraft with a receiver in your goggles. The two halves have to speak the same system, and the systems do not interoperate: they use different modulation, different encoding and, for the digital ones, proprietary link protocols that no one else implements.

The practical consequence is that this is the choice you make first and change last. Once you own goggles, you are buying transmitters for those goggles for as long as you keep them, and goggles are usually the single most expensive item in an FPV setup. It is worth more research than the aircraft.

The five systems

What each one is, and what you are choosing when you pick it.

"Not compatible" has three meanings, not two

Buildlas does not report a video mismatch as a simple yes or no, because the reality has three states and collapsing them would tell people their working setup is broken.

Natively received: the goggles decode that system directly. This is the pairing you want. Received through an input: several goggles carry an AV or HDMI input and will show a feed from a system they cannot decode natively, at the cost of a little added latency. HDZero goggles take Walksnail and analog this way; Walksnail's Goggles X take analog over AV and HDZero over HDMI. Genuinely incompatible: no path at all.

So when the planner says a pair works "through the goggles' input", that is not a hedge. It is a different, real answer.
