What do nano, micro, mini and full actually measure?

Camera sizes

FPV camera sizes are four named mounting widths. Unlike most fit questions, this one usually has a remedy, because adapter brackets between the sizes are stock items.

The four sizes

The name refers to the mounting width, not the sensor.

NameMounting widthWhere it is used
Nano14 mm2 inch and under
Micro19 mmThe most popular size, 3 inch to 5 inch and up
Mini21 mmMany frames are designed around this
Full26–28 mmOlder and larger frames

Why a size mismatch is a warning here

A frame's camera bay is cut for a particular mounting width, so a camera of the wrong size does not drop in. Brackets that adapt one size to another, a nano into a micro bay being the common case, are ordinary stock items rather than something you have to fabricate.

That is why the planner names the remedy instead of refusing the pairing. A finding that says "this needs a 14 to 19 mm bracket" is more useful than a red cross, and it is more accurate.

The planner reads these same properties off every product in the catalog and tells you what each pairing does with your build.
